An important note to Realtors
Having been a real estate broker for over 12 years myself, I have only the highest regard for the real estate profession. It takes a lot of hard work to become successful. I also know first hand that it is easy to be complacent and put yourself at risk. Times are changing, and the public is much more informed than ever before. Give the following some thought.
Ask yourself the following questions:
- Are you recommending a home inspector who is not an independent inspector?
- Are you steering your customers to the home inspector of YOUR choice?
If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, you may be exposing yourself and your firm to a potential lawsuit. There has been more than one Realtor sued for being viewed as “in collusion” with a home inspector.
Do you really want to continue taking that risk?
There are many qualified home inspectors in Maine, but like any other profession, there are inspectors that are not qualified. If you are going to recommend only one inspector, be sure that inspector is genuinely independent, and a member of the Independent Home Inspectors of North America. It’s the only way to protect yourself and to give your customers the inspection they deserve.
If you have any questions, feel free to call or email me at any time.
